ISA Server 2000 already has Bandwidth Rules. Why do I need Bandwidth Splitter?

dBandwidth Rules in ISA Server 2000 cannot be used to successfully restrict bandwidth usage. Try allocating bandwidth to your users using Bandwidth Rules if you have not done so before, and you will surely understand that these rules can hardly affect anything. Little practical use is mainly the reason why these rules were removed from ISA Server 2004.

Can I test Bandwidth Splitter on a virtual machine?

Yes, you can. However, shaping can be extremely inaccurate in such conditions, as problems with counting of small time periods may occur.

Is it possible to temporarily disable Bandwidth Splitter without uninstalling it?

Yes, it is. To do so, disable its filters in the Application Filters and Web Filters lists and restart the web proxy and firewall services. To resume operation of Bandwidth Splitter, enable these filters again and restart the web proxy and firewall services again after that.

I made shaping/quota rule for users, but it doesn't work, and I don't see these users in monitoring.

To make work Bandwidth Splitter rules that have users or user groups (not IP address sets) in the Applies To field, those users should be authenticated. For this purpose they should be allowed in generic Firewall Policy Rules as authenticated users, that is at Users tab you should specify something other than All Users, for example All Authenticated Users.

Why some connections of SecureNAT clients are not visible in Bandwidth Splitter?

This could happen if Bandwidth Splitter Application Filter is not selected in protocol allowed to SecureNAT clients. By default, during installation Bandwidth Splitter selects itself in all defined TCP/UDP protocols. If after that you create new protocol and allow it to SecureNAT clients, you need to select Bandwidth Splitter Application Filter in it to enable processing of this protocol for SecureNAT clients by Bandwidth Splitter.

When I run ISA Management console from remote computer, I don't see Bandwidth Splitter section.

You need to install Bandwidth Splitter remote management component on this computer. Just run Bandwidth Splitter installer on it, choose "Custom Installation" and select only "Administration add-on for ISA Management" component.

Shaping becomes incorrect after sometime on AMD Dual Core processor systems.

Shaping relies on correct timing. There is a timing issue in AMD dual core processors. To fix it, download and install the latest AMD Dual-Core Optimizer, and AMD Processor Driver from AMD web site:
